Porsche is sending the 911 and Boxster models into the new model year with a touch of turbo atmosphere - at least as far as the interior is concerned. The driver's seat memory function can be operated for the first time in the 911 and Boxster S with fully electric seats (individual equipment) using a button in the ignition key. The remote control recognizes which of the four possible vehicle keys is currently being used and passes this information on to the memory control unit. The seat position stored in this key is immediately converted into commands for the electric motors and the driver's seat and exterior mirrors are adjusted accordingly. In addition to the four programmable keys, which can now also be used to automatically open the front trunk lid by pressing another button, three other seat positions can be stored. However, they are not accessed via the keys, but via the familiar memory buttons on the sill cover to the left of the driver's seat.

The lid release levers for the trunk and engine compartment, which are also integrated in the sill cover, are being replaced by so-called release buttons on all Porsche sports cars in the new model year. A slight pull is enough to open the front or rear hood. The main work is done by electric motors that unlock the corresponding lock. However, you still have to use your hand to close it.

Orientation lighting in the interior using small LEDs is also standard on all Porsche models in the new model year. An LED is hidden in the interior light (in vehicles with a rain sensor in the base of the interior mirror) and shines a weak light on the cockpit and center console area. The slight brightening makes it much easier to find the control switches, thus increasing driving safety. The light source, which can be adjusted to two brightness levels, is well shielded so that it cannot irritate either the driver or the passenger. There is another LED in the left door handle that is invisible to the driver. Its light beam illuminates the ignition lock and the light switch area for better orientation. There is also an LED in each of the side door opener recesses to help with orientation, so that the first time you reach for the door opener, you know exactly where to start.

In response to numerous customer requests, Porsche is now also offering an "invisible" telephone antenna for the 911 and Boxster. Like the radio antenna, which was already installed in the windscreen of the predecessor of the 911, it is integrated into the vehicle. The technicians found an optimal place for the transmission and reception in the so-called water box between the upper end of the trunk lid and the windscreen. However, this decision also required the use of completely new technology, as the rod antenna used up to now only performs well at the highest point of the vehicle. The new slot/surface antenna was specially developed for the 911 and Boxster and delivers the highest transmission and reception quality.

Expansion of equipment for the Boxster

The interior of the Porsche Boxster with a 2.7-liter engine has been upgraded for the new model year. Like the Boxster S, it has a roof lining that not only refines the look, but above all the background noise that penetrates the interior of the car from the outside through the fabric roof is significantly minimized. The special fabric material of the roof liner reduces the noise level - measured across all speed ranges - by an average of two to three decibels, and speech intelligibility is improved by around ten percent.

In addition to the three-spoke steering wheel with the colored Porsche crest, which is now standard, both the Boxster and the Boxster S have a new instrument graphic in the instrument cluster. The design comes from the 911 Turbo. The digital speedometer moves to the left under the speedometer needle. The free space in the lower area of the central rev counter is now used for a large display that shows the total mileage and automatic oil level measurement, the daily mileage or information from the on-board computer (individual equipment). As before, the digital time appears on the display of the right-hand round instrument, but in much larger digits. In addition, the instrument cluster has been further improved to protect against extraneous light effects and the previously used incandescent lamps have been replaced by light-emitting diodes with a very long service life.

In addition to the standard equipment, Porsche Stability Management (PSM) can also be ordered for the Boxster and Boxster S from this model year. The PSM driving dynamics control only intervenes in sporty driving when the physical limits are reached. But then it shows extremely short reaction times. This means immediate intervention in the engine management and targeted braking of individual wheels in order to stabilize the vehicle again. For experienced drivers who would rather master such a situation themselves, Porsche has created the option of switching the system off at the touch of a button. But the electronic helper is still available in the background. A quick step on the brake pedal is enough and PSM is fully active again.
