A consistent convertible design

The open version was part of the strategy of the extensive 911 redevelopment from the start. In the body design of the convertible, this is expressed through a new, perfect interpretation of the classic 911 theme. The body design sets standards in terms of rigidity and safety for open cars.

Standard: electro-hydraulic top

The folding top of the 911 Cabriolet opens or closes automatically in just 20 seconds. The corresponding command can be triggered not only via a touch switch in the center console. Porsche is the first car manufacturer in the world to offer the option of calling up the functions of the automatic roof using the remote control in the ignition key (not applicable to all country equipment) or with the key in the door lock.

Standard: extendable roll bars

Two roll bars protect all four occupants of the 911 Cabriolet in the event of a rollover. The two high-strength tubular steel bars extend using spring force when a roll sensor reports that the car is in a dangerous sideways position and then lock into place mechanically.

Standard and only available from Porsche: convertible-compatible side airbags with head protection

Porsche developed special side airbags with a particularly large volume (30 liters) for the new 911 and the Boxster. This dimensioning and the airbag geometry ensure effective protection for the head and chest even when the roof is open and the side windows are down. Porsche is the only manufacturer to offer convertible-compatible side airbags with head protection. These side airbags are standard on all Porsche models.

Drive of your choice

The Carrera Cabriolet can be ordered with rear-wheel drive or with permanent all-wheel drive, as desired. The drive technology corresponds to the Carrera Coupé or the Carrera 4 Coupé. Of course, Porsche Stability Management (PSM ) is also standard on the Carrera 4 Cabriolet. PSM can be ordered as an individual feature on the 911 Cabriolet with rear-wheel drive.

No extra charge: aluminum hardtop

The hardtop, which can be removed in just a few steps, is included in the price of the vehicle. Despite a very stable double-shell design, the weight of the roof including the heated rear window made of mineral glass is only 33 kilograms, which means it can be handled effortlessly by two people.

Innovative folding system for the convertible roof

As with the Boxster, the roof of the 911 Cabriolet folds in a Z shape. This ensures that the outside of the top fabric faces upwards even when it is open and the inner roof lining is protected from dirt.

Top-class performance

The 911 Cabriolet is one of the world's top open sports cars. The water-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine with 3.4 liters of displacement and 221 kW (300 hp) gives the 911 Cabriolet performance that is only achieved by very few open-top series sports cars: 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, top speed 280 km/h (275 km/h with Tiptronic S) - thanks to a value of 0.30, which is the same as the coupé.

More space for all passengers

The longer wheelbase and the slightly larger width of the interior compared to the previous model also benefit the occupants of the Cabriolet. There is not only more space in the front, the seats in the rear also offer growing Porsche drivers more legroom.

An extra trunk improves the quality of travel

With its large luggage compartment at the front, which also offers space for standard suitcases, and a spacious storage area with the backrests folded down in the rear, the 911 Cabriolet surpasses most comparable sports cars in terms of the size of the loading volume for luggage.

Standard for perfection and safety

Due to its large number of safety features, the 911 Carrera Cabriolet is the international standard for active and passive safety in open-top sports cars.

The body structure is not only very strong, its construction is also designed for very specific deformation in the event of a collision.

In addition to full-size airbags for the driver and front passenger, the Cabriolet has side airbags as standard, each with a volume of 30 liters. The special feature: They ensure comprehensive protection for the head, chest and arms, even with the roof open and the side windows down. Porsche is the only manufacturer to offer side airbags with head protection suitable for convertibles. In addition, the Cabriolet naturally has three-point automatic belts for all four passengers.

Two roll bars are fitted as standard, which are normally discreetly hidden behind the rear seats. They are extended by spring pressure when an inclination sensor detects the risk of a rollover. In tests, Porsche technicians were able to prove that the bars can protect all four occupants of a convertible from serious injuries.

Topless in 20 seconds

The designers were able to let their creativity run wild with the bodywork because work on the coupé and convertible began at the same time. This made it possible to adapt the profile of the open 911 to the unmistakable silhouette of the 911 even more consistently than before. The result is a more elegant convertible with a fully retractable roof that disappears under a flap when open. The roof is opened or closed electrohydraulically within 20 seconds - including opening and closing the windows. There are three ways to trigger these functions: via a push button in the center console, via the remote control on the key (not available in all country versions) or by holding the key in the door lock in the locked position.

The design of the 911 fabric roof is high-quality, the outside is made of the elegant and indestructible material "Sonnenland". On the inside, the roof frame is covered by a roof liner. The acoustic experts have worked intensively to reduce the wind noise of the fabric roof to a minimum.

Hardtop is part of the standard equipment

The Porsche 911 Cabriolet comes with a hardtop made of aluminum with a heated rear window made of mineral glass as standard. The double-shell roof with a stiffening aluminum parcel shelf is characterized by particularly high strength, minimal wind noise and a low weight of 33 kilograms. Two people can handle it without much effort. It is reliably attached to the body in just a few simple steps, and the electrically heated rear window is automatically contacted.

A wind deflector is available as an individual option, which makes it possible to drive quickly with the top down without annoying turbulence. When it is not needed, the wind deflector can be stored in a pocket in the spare wheel cover.

The Cabriolet's basic technology is the same as that of the Coupé. The main components of the body, the chassis with the light alloy wheel suspension, the water-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine and the power transmission via a six-speed gearbox or the five-speed automatic Tiptronic S are identical in the Coupé and Cabriolet. The Cabriolet therefore offers all the advantages of the current 911 series:

  • The water-cooled boxer engine has a displacement of 3.4 liters and produces 221 kW (300 hp).
  • The modern design of the engine ensures low consumption and low pollutant emissions.

Driving safety and comfort benefit from a state-of-the-art chassis in which the load-bearing structures and all control arms are made of aluminum.
