1993 911 Turbo 3.6
Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6
Universal, high-performance sports car
When superlatives come up in automobile building, the word is "Porsche Turbo". The classic top version of the 911, with exhaust turbocharger and an intercooler fitted into the rear wing, usually simply called "the Turbo" introduced an epoch in engine technology which the current version, the 911 Turbo 3.6, carries dynamically forward
The power plant
The 911 Turbo is powered by a 3.6 liter, six-cylinder engine identical to the 250 HP (184 kW) unblown engine in its crankshaft drive and cylinder blocks Pistons, camshafts and further-optimized K-Jetronic are laid out to meet the special conditions of a supercharged engine. Output increases to 265 kW/360 HP. The torque curve climbs steeply and remains above 450 newtons from 2500 to 5500 RPM. The torque peak is 520 newtons at 4200 RPM.
The result is balanced power production in the lower revolution range. Early boost pressure buildup provides soft take-up of turbocharger effect, which already produces typical turbo thrust by median revs. The turbo experience has gained in intensity and fascination. Performance figures are accordingly impressive: 0-100 km/ in 4.8 seconds, top speed of 280 km/h.
External impression - simply Turbo
The typical body look with widely bowed fenders and large rear wing producing greater down force are further accented by a body lowered 20 mm. It is very sportingly laid out and underlines the agility as well as handling, as do the three-piece, 18 inch wheels. The standard differential with 20 percent lockup under load and up to 100 percent on overrun improves straight-line tracking.
New wheels - 8 J x 18 for 225/40 ZR 18 tires in front, 10 J x 18 with 265/35 ZR 18 tires in back - offer exceptional handling, in conjunction with the new chassis setup. An altered center tail area, brake saddles coated with red powder, chromed "Turbo 3.6" script on the tail and script woven into the rear seat backs complete the attractive Turbo look.
Turbo 3.6 exclusively as a Coupé
Extensive standard fittings include, among others, air bags for driver and front passenger, anti-block brake system, air conditioner, RDS radio, all|eather interior, seat heating, alarm system and on-board computer. Either the standard fuel tank of 77 liters or the "RS" tank of 92 liters can be installed - at no extra cost. The larger tank means a reduction in the front luggage area.
