Porsche 928 S4

1987

Porsche 928 S 4 - model year l987 With the most profound changes since its appearance in 1977, the large-volume and luxurious Porsche 928 S enters model year 1987: Now the eight-cylinder engine, which has been increased to five liters and equipped with the most modern four-valve technology, makes 320 hp, and also the body was visually and functionally revised.

As the latest example of the Porsche philosophy of always offering new models with the same output for cars with and without a catalytic converter, the most powerful Porsche model is well equipped: The V 8 engine, which is designed for premium Euro petrol (95 octane), is there full power of 320 hp even with catalytic converter operation. After the models 924 S, 944 S and 944 Turbo, the new 928 S 4 is already the fourth model from Porsche in which the catalytic converter no longer causes a drop in performance. Knock control is also new to protect the engine. If you refuel with poor quality fuel, for example when driving abroad, the knock control reduces the ignition point for each individual cylinder and thus often prevents irreparable damage.

In conjunction with the aerodynamics, which have been greatly improved thanks to numerous body modifications, the high-torque four-valve engine helps the new 928 S 4 achieve excellent performance values. With an acceleration of just 5.9 seconds from zero to 100 km / h and a top speed of over 270 km / h, the 928 S 4 produced in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen is in the absolute top group of top-class sports cars.

In order to achieve a favorable drag coefficient of 0.34, the 928S received an optimized front section with new fog and additional lights, a modified front spoiler with openings for the brake ventilation, a new rear section with modified rear lights and now also an integrated rear fog light as well as the (PU Foam made) existing rear spoiler, which reduces the lift at the rear and thus guarantees problem-free driving behavior even at very high speeds. A large underbody paneling and threshold panels that reach up to the doors are other optically less noticeable changes to the new Porsche 928 S 4.

The wider wheels on the rear axle, which correspond to the stately format of 245/45 VR 16 in conjunction with eight inch wide forged wheels. At the front, the 1580 kilogram car rolls unchanged on 225/50 VR 16 tires mounted on seven-inch wide rims.

1987

New in the offer for the eight-cylinder model is the comfort-increasing control of the seat positions. Three different positions can be programmed using the control switch in the driver's door and called up depending on the occasion. With this control, the individual customer has the option of programming three different programs for seat and exterior mirror positions. If, for example, the Porsche's driver's wife gets in, all that is needed is the push of a button and the position control adjusts the seat, mirror and lumbar support to the required dimensions.

The Porsche 928 S with four-valve unit as a new member in the circle of the fastest, most powerful and top-class automobiles in the world will be officially presented to the public in September 1987.
