The 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 4, with fully automatic, "intelligent" all-wheel drive, is one of the world's premier performance automobiles.

This classic sports car is powered by a 3.6-liter version of Porsche's air-cooled, horizontally opposed, six-cylinder engine. With 247 horsepower at 6,100 rpm, the Carrera 4 can accelerate to 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds. Top track speed is 162 mph. Maximum torque is 228 ft. lbs. at 6,700 rpm.

The 911 Carrera 4's innovative all-wheel-drive system uses multiple sensors, computer controls and two multi-disc clutches with hydraulic actuation to transmit power to the wheels. The sophisticated system senses which wheels have the traction to be able to utilize power It reduces power to wheels that do not have necessary traction.

The drive system computer in the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 engages the multi-disc clutches as needed. One clutch controls torque division front-to-rear and overrides the normal torque split of 31 percent front/69 percent rear. The second clutch serves as an automatic variable-ratio, limited-slip differential between the rear wheels.

The 911 Carrera 4, available in Coupe, Targa and Cabriolet body styles, features a rear spoiler that extends automatically at higher speeds for improved handling and additional engine cooling.

All Porsche 911 Carrera 4 models include safety features like an airbag supplemental restraint system for driver and front seat passenger, four-wheel disc brakes with an Anti-lock Braking System, high performance ZR-rated steel belted radials and a fully independent race-tuned suspension.
