1990 944 S2
Subtle body changes mark the introduction of Porsche's 944 series models for the 1991 model year. A new integrated spoiler on the 944 S2 Coupe resembles the spoiler designed for the Porsche 959. The open-air 944 S2 Cabriolet retains the same body style introduced with the car last year.
Both Porsches are powered by a 208-horsepower, 3.0-liter 16-valve engine and can accelerate to 60 mph in an impressive 6.9 seconds. Top track speed for both cars is 149 mph.
Both Porsches are responsive, and with 207 ft. lbs. of torque at 4,100 rpm, low-end acceleration is strong.
Porsche 's state-of-the-art performance technology includes a Bosch-Motronic engine management system with an on-board diagnostic function to help a technician pinpoint and repair even intermittent problems
The Porsche engine also incorporates an adaptive knock sensor to allow the engine to operate at optimal combustion conditions for maximum power and fuel efficiency. It also helps prevent engine damage if gasoline with an octane level lower than that recommended for the 10.9:1 compression ratio is used inadvertently.
Two counter-rotating balance shafts run at twice the crankshaft speed. They virtually eliminate vibration in the large displacement four-cylinder engine.
