For 1991, the classic 911 Carrera 2 is available with the traditional five-speed transmission or Porsche's innovative Tiptronic dual function transmission.

The new Tiptronic transmission, introduced in the spring of 1990 and available exclusively on Porsche's 911 Carrera 2 model, allows a driver to select clutchless manual shifting or fully automatic operation at any time.

Both models are propelled by a 3.6-liter, 247-horsepower six-cylinder, air-cooled engine located at the rear of the car.

Acceleration is quick: 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds with the five-speed transmission and 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds with the Tiptronic transmission. Top track speed is 162 mph with the five-speed and 159 mph with the Tiptronic.

Still visible in Porsche's race bred sports car is the body style - first introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1963 - which has virtually become automotive art. Continually refined over the years, the newest iteration is more aerodynamic with contoured front and rear bumpers, a flush mounted windshield and a full undertray to help reduce the lift coefficient to near zero and the drag coefficient to .32.

Both models are available in Coupe, Targa and Cabriolet body styles.

The 911 Carrera 2 has an extendable rear spoiler to improve handling at highway speeds and to nearly double the area provided for engine cooling.

Standard safety features on both models include an airbag supplemental restraint system for both driver and front seat passenger, an Anti-lock Braking System, race-tuned suspension, toe-correcting rear suspension and high performance ZR-rated steel belted radial tires. Porsche is the only automobile manufacturer to make a dual airbag system available as standard equipment on every car sold in the U.S.

Other standard appointments include air conditioning with automatic climate control, power-assisted steering, partial leather seats, power windows, cruise control, electric sliding sunroof on the Coupe, power operated top on the Cabriolet, a Blaupunkt "Stuttgart" AM/FM digital stereo cassette radio with hi-fi sound system, tinted glass all around, windshield with graduated tint, one-key central locking and alarm system, rear window defroster, heated windshield washer nozzles, analog instrumentation on the five-speed models and an on-board trip computer on the Tiptronic models.

Every Porsche model is covered by a transferable, two-year bumper-to-bumper limited vehicle warranty with unlimited mileage and a 10-year rust perforation warranty.
