This model was presented at the London Motor Show in October 1960. Based on the DB 4GT but foreseen of brilliant coachwork by the hand of Ercole Spada for account of Zagato.

Even though there were high expectations, there was a limited demand and finally a mere 19 original models were built but, in the meantime, this model has received iconic status and original models fetch many millions.

In 1987 Aston Martin built 4 "continuations (Sanction 2) on the correct chassis, and a few year later (2000) Zagato also built a couple more, of which this is a model. One needs more than the fingers on one hand to count the number of unofficial replicas.

The Aston Martin Continuation Series program launched in April 2019 will deliver more of them, powered by a 4.7-litre engine now making around 400 bhp
