Incuriositi dai racconti di amici e colleghi, siamo stati a dare una occhiata ad un vero e proprio capannone delle meraviglie, sito nella zona industriale di Lier, una cittadina belga sita a sud di Anversa.

Le nostre impressioni generali

Beh, siamo rimasti letteralmente senza parole ... il livello delle auto presenti ed il loro numero impressionante stordiscono cervello e cuore. Non avevamo mai visto un numero tale di Abarth & friends tutte insieme (FIAT, Lada, Saab ex works, etc), alcune veramente rare ed importanti. E quello che conta, raccolte dalla passione del "patron" Guy Moerenhout, vivace e verace epicureo fiammingo, pilota (anche di 911), businessman, titolare di una scuderia che porta il suo nome e che annovera fra i suoi clienti il fior fiore di sportivi e "vip" del paese dei puffi ma non solo.

Guy e' una vera leggenda vivente nell'ambiente e conosce vita, guidi e miracoli non solo delle centinaia di auto esposte (sarebbe meglio dire parcheggiate, visto che la maggior parte e' ancora perfettamente funzionante ed utilizzata regolamente in eventi motoristici), ma anche collocazione, funzione, stato delle migliaia di ricambi ed accessori che si trovano accatastati sugli sterminati scaffali dei capannoni che raccolgono questa immensa collezione privata (le auto sono di proprieta' di Guy e di suoi amici), una vera e propria impresa familiare nella quale la simpatica moglie (Let) e l'appassionato genero di Guy sono attivamente impegnati.

AGGIORNAMENTO

Come anticipato, siamo tornati a trovare Guy ad ottobre (inzialmente ci eravamo riproposti autunno 2020 ma siamo stati costretti a rinviare a causa della nota situazione Covid) cosi' da poterci soffermare su qualche pezzo con piu' attenzione ed approfondita analisi.

Abbiamo trovato la vecchia scuderia in ristrutturazione, con la collezione che si e' trasferita temporaneamente in un complesso industriale poco lontano (immaginate solo lo sforzo logistico per spostare oltre 200 auto, alcune delle quali non funzionanti e tonnellate di pezzi di ricambio e materiale vario). Ancora una volta, lo torneremo certamente a trovare per discutere dei nostri programmi sportivi futuri.
