Ad attenderli non c'era solo un ricco buffet (abbiamo ancora una copia originale del menu dell'epoca), ma soprattutto le nuove Targa e 4S, entrambe dotate del motore "VarioRam" ad induzione variabile da 285 cv.

La prima sfoggiava un nuovissimo tetto panoramico in vetro, poi ripreso molti anni dopo dalle successive 996 e 997, mentre la seconda era appoggiata sulla ciclistica della "Turbo", di cui condivideva anche gli allargamenti ma non il vistoso alettone posteriore.

Visual excitement in the form of two new models, backed up by performance, comfort, convenience and safety enhancements, highlight the 1996 Porsche 911 model line. Introduced in 1994 for the 1995 model year, the thoroughly revised, yet familiar, 911 series includes the rear-wheel drive Carrera Coupe and Cabriolet, the all-wheel drive Carrera 4 Coupe and Cabriolet, the 400-horsepower all-wheel drive 911 Turbo, and the new Turbo-look Carrera 4S Coupe and Carrera Targa with its sliding glass roof.

OVERVIEW: 1996 PORSCHE 911 MODELS

Modifications, primarily to the intake system, result in an increase to 282 horsepower (210 kW) (up from 270) and 250 ft.lbs. (340 Nm) of torque (up from 243) for the 1996 version of Porsche's traditional 3.6-liter, air-cooled, horizontally opposed, six-cylinder engine. A passive security system with immobilizer, previously introduced on the Porsche 911 Turbo, provides automatic vehicle protection. A removable faceplate and code protection secure the audio system from theft.
